ABOUT US

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Affected Voices is an inclusive programme for amplifying the voices of people living with morbidity, disability and disfigurement from neglected tropical diseases. One of the 3 pillars of the new WHO NTD Roadmap is to change operating models and culture to facilitate country ownership of NTD control programmes. To deliver this, we, together with other Kigali Declaration signatories, are working to ensure that people affected by NTDs – particularly women and girls, persons with disabilities, and minority and underrepresented groups – are at the centre of NTD programmes and decision-making processes. This starts by ensuring people living with these conditions are heard and represented effectively to inform policies and interventions that affect their daily lives.

This NTD affected voices programme is made up of participants suffering from chronic NTD conditions, health education teachers at local schools, environmental health technicians, community health workers, community nurses, primary healthcare workers, specialist clinicians, local and senior policy makers, researchers  and development partners. Most of us have worked and lived in NTD endemic areas and some of us have lived experience of an NTD infection and disease. Together we are drawing on our knowledge of NTD disease, control and management to inform discourse, policy and practice in providing equitable and accessible chronic NTD disease and morbidity healthcare and health services.
