World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day: Amplifying affected voices

On World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, we are proud to present a compelling collection of photos, videos, and personal stories from individuals who have experienced the profound impact of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). This exhibition, hosted at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, has been created in collaboration with Uniting to Combat NTDs and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
World NTD Day, observed annually on January 30, is a global initiative to raise awareness of NTDs, which affect over 1.5 billion people worldwide, including some of the most vulnerable communities. This day highlights the urgent need for action to address these diseases and foster collaboration across sectors to improve the lives of those impacted.
The exhibition is brought to life through the exceptional work of photographers Marcus Perkins, Gareth Poxon, and Justin Brown, with videography by Barry Gibb. It highlights individuals living with the effects of NTDs, offering a powerful glimpse into their experiences and fostering greater awareness of these often-overlooked diseases.
Many of those featured in the exhibition were participants in the Amplifying Affected Voices workshops held in Zimbabwe and Tanzania. These workshops provided a platform for people living with NTDs to share their experiences and insights, enabling them to play an active role in shaping policies and interventions that directly affect their lives.
The exhibition is free and open to the public during the following hours:
- Friday, 31 January: 12:00 – 17:00
- Monday, 3 February: 14:00 – 18:00
- Tuesday, 4 February: 14:00 – 18:00
Tickets can be reserved through Eventbrite.
Through this initiative, we aim to spark dialogue, influence policy, and inspire action, working toward a future where individuals affected by NTDs are heard, represented, and supported. Join us on World NTD Day to honor these voices and their remarkable stories.
